Back to the Blog

Darla has been hounding me —-😂😂😂 pun intended to get back at writing the blog. I have been remiss in my blogging. A lot has happened this trip. We have been to a lot of places….

So, as I said, we started out on my birthday the end of October. Had to get away from NY for the winter. And thank goodness we did. 200” this winter or something crazy. 6’ of snow — 2 different storms. When you have 5” legs, deep snow is scary.

Me trying to enjoy the snow.

That picture is from years ago — Darla still lived in Vermont. Darla is shorter than me so deep snow freaks her out even more than me — if that is possible.

We have left the snow behind. We headed south and will not look back until spring. We are currently at Gulf State Park on the Gulf of Mexico in Alabama. I will have to go backward at some point — we have been to many amazing locations. But Gulf State Park is where we are now. It is a jewel of a park. It has so much to offer.

The rv campground is really nice. The beach is a bit of a hike but not terrible. There is a boardwalk through the marshes over to the beach. We go over most days to look for shells. Darla loves to shell. It is amazing how the beach changes everyday.

There are reefs just off shore. There are so many shells here. The other day there was a big storm. The next day the shore was littered with shells. One spot in particular had thousands of shells. There was a sand bar just off shore and the shells and alot of sea creatures were stuck between the sand bar and the beach. Every wave brought new shells on to the beach. It was amazing. We saw sea worms and starfish and shells.

Shells in the water

Banded starfish. This is the first time we ever saw a starfish on the beach!
It is a beautiful beach but it is not covered in shells

The next day the sand bar was gone and everything had washed up on shore. Every day there are a few shells. It was kind of amazing to see so many shells at once.
